Elements of a Primary Care Visit
The essential elements of a primary care visit (also known as a well
child visit) include: interval history (review of events since the last
primary care visit), diet history, sleep history, developmental history,
anticipatory guidance (including support services), physical examination,
immunizations (as indicated), and review of the plan of care, by the nurse
practitioner, with the parent or primary caregiver. These elements have
been demonstrated throughout this learning module. Additional assessment
and/or screening may be indicated (e.g., assessment of growth and development
using screening tools, such as the Denver Developmental Screening
Test, hearing screening, vision screening) based on information collected
throughout the primary care visit.
